Is the Petrified Tree at Disneyland Getting Shorter?

I (Mike Ausec) took this picture in the 1980s (or was it the 1970s?) when I
visited Disneyland for the first time. The angle is a bit different from the picture
that follows, but it sure looks like the tree got "topped" sometime between
then and 2008.

My friend Eric Campbell, took this picture for me in September 2008.
Notice the distance from the iron strap to the top of the tree. The dedication
plaque also looks different.

Here are some images of the tree before it was crated and loaded onto the truck for the
trip to Disneyland in 1956. The stump looks a lot longer in these photos than it does now!
